favorite hair dye brands

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

i love dyeing my hair and so learning about the best hair dye options makes the process way easier. i've learned a lot from trial and error unfortunately. this list is the top drugstore/beauty supply hair dye brands that i love to use...

olia garnier nutrisse

olia is my favorite drugstore hair dye brand on the market. this stuff smells amazing, contains no ammonia or other harmful chemicals, and has the most beautiful natural hair dye colors. that's probably my biggest problem with them is that they only carry natural colors but i love how every color has turned out on me. everything comes included in the kit- gloves, a cute little teardrop bottle, developer, hair net, and color. the colors are beautiful and don't fade as quickly as other brands. the dye also feel really good on my hair and comes with a post-dye deep conditioner to nourish split ends.

CONS

ion color brilliance

i've used ion since the very beginning of my hair dyeing journey. if you are looking to cover your gray roots or have some really vibrant colors then ion is the perfect choice. these can be found at your local Sally's Beauty Supply store and the best thing about them in my opinion is that they smell amazing. the semi-permanent dyes also are really beautiful as they fade out so either way your color will look beautiful. if you're a routine hair dyer then this is a great product since it comes with only the dye and doesn't have all the other supplies you might need doing it for the first time. highly recommend.

CONS

splat

i didn't honestly think that this hair dye would be the best purely because of its packaging which i know is so shallow... but i love this stuff! it's the typical shitty smelling drugstore dye but it works really well and the color is so beautiful and vibrant. this was also probably the best lasting color that i've had thus far. also it's really accessible since they can be found at the drugstore.

CONS

sparks

i first heard about sparks when i went to Rickys in NYC. i fucking love Rickys and this dye is great too. it's probably my least favorite of the four probably just because it faded out extremely fast and was the most expensive. but the color was really beautiful when i first applied it and the packaging was adorable. also it smells really good and yummy. if you're buying hair dye at Rickys, this brand is definitely the way to go.
